On Sunday April 12th, we had a fun afternoon of hair cuts, music, face painting, our auction…all for a worthy cause.

All Primping for PAALS cut a thon proceeds go directly to PAALS, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  ALL donations are tax deductible.

PAALS

Gore Salon is passionate about giving back to their local community and every year they help raise funds to support causes like Locks of Love, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and PAALS, Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services. By supporting the wonderful mission of PAALS through the Primping for PAALS cut a thon, Gore Salon is helping to raise money to offset the cost of food and medicine for these local service dogs in training.

Primping for PAALS at Gore Hair Salon

The PAALS mission is very near and dear to our hearts at Gore Salon.  That’s why we look forward to hosting our own fundraiser each year, we call it Primping for PAALS.   Clients come in for a hair cut and enjoy the rare opportunity to spend some time getting to know a few service dogs.  With the PAALS representatives, we learn more about how service dogs are trained, how they help people with disabilities and how people should act around service dogs when they are “working.”  It’s a fun day of primping, raffles and prizes, with all proceeds going directly towards food and medicine for the 20 dogs currently in PAALS training.

The Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services

Simply put, PAALS trains dogs to become assistance dogs, or service dogs, to help people live more independent and enriched lives. It can take about two years to develop a puppy into a fully trained service dog, during which time they learn various skills; turn lights on and off, tug open doors, pick up dropped items and alert for help to assist individuals in wheelchairs.  Other dogs are trained to assist children with autism and soldiers with PTSD.  PAALS dogs are primarily placed in and around South Carolina.
